GAS TIPS
Drive Sensibly
Aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration
and braking) wastes gas. It can lower your gas
mileage by 33% at highway speeds and by 5%
around town.

Gas mileage rapidly decreases at speeds above
60 mph. A good rule of thumb, you can assume that
every 5 mph over the speed limit you drive is like
paying an additional $0.20 per gallon for gas.

Remove Excessive Weight
Avoid keeping any unnecessary items in your
vehicle, especially heavy ones. for every 100lbs
extra in your vehicle could reduce your mpg by 2%.
A lighter vehicle can save $0.03 -$0.06 per gallon of
gas.

Avoid Excessive Idling
Cars with larger engines use more gas idling than those with smaller engines. Idling also
reduces you average mpg.

Use Cruise Control
Using cruise control on the highway help maintain a constant speed and, in most cases will
help save gas.

Keep your Engine Properly Tuned
Fixing a car that is noticeably out of tune or has failed an emissions test can improve its gas
mileage by 4%. Which equals about $0.12 per gallon.

Keep Tires Properly Inflated
You can improve your gas mileage by 3.3% by keeping your tires inflated to the proper pressure.
MPG savings average $0.09 per gallon.

Use the Recommended Grade of Oil for Your Engine

How to Buy Gas
Buy gasoline during the coolest time of day - early morning or late evening is best. During these
times gasoline is densest.

Best Time to Buy Gas
Normally the best time to buy gas from a pricing point is on a Wednesday morning. The prices
are usually moved up for the weekend by the oil companies. By Wednesday there has been
three days of competition to help drive down the prices a few cents.

Highway driving
If you have to buy on the highway, try to buy at the border stations when traveling between states,
these stations are very aggressive at trying to gain your business and many can take advantage
of differences in state taxes.

Cold Weather Driving
During cold weather watch for icicles frozen to car frame. Up to 100lbs can be accumulated!
Accumulated snow and ice cause tremendous wind resistance. Try to keep your car clean.

Avoid using roof top carriers, they can cause serious drag on the car and lessen your mileage
by up to 15%.
